A very useful site

Well, one of my favourite sites on Internet is: www.chilewarez.org. This site is one of those where you can find many (Nn) interesting things for downloading (P) and (Nn) also (C+P) tons of useful information related to almost everything you want or (Nn) you have been looking for. In this way, you can (Wf) find from PC utilities to just a boring chat =]]. It is important to point out that you can also (We) share anything you want on its rooms.

The story of how I found this site is (Wt) because I needed an antivirus for my PC and I found it here. Since then, I have been part of this virtual community as (Sm)member which means that I visit it three or four times a week.

I really like this site because my life has become easier and also cheaper. This is because I do not have to pay anything for programs (Ww) or movies and I entertain myself a lot searching and finding different things for my convenience.

And there is a section which says “Educación & Profesión” where you can find lots of downloadable information from dictionaries to English programs (Ww).

Please check it out.

Kess Continuation...

Billy left the school and started to work as a miner. Apparently, he had lost all his innocence and became the same as the other miners were. People with no dreams whatsoever.

Billy entered a situation which he did not recognize himself and the only important thing now is to go out and drink until getting drunk. This adult working class man started being trouble by his boss and his other partners who laughing at him at the moment of being humiliated.

One day, while he was working at the mines he was told that his mother had suffered a heart attack and she was in her death throes. Billy went to the hospital to see his mother but doctor did not allow him to see her because she had already died a couple of minutes before. He sat down and started to remember her but he did not seem to be suffering because of it but obviously he lamented her death.

That situation made quite an impact on him and he decided to quit his job in order to get away all the chaos he had in his life. He went home and picked up some clothes and left that house that for years was not a pleasant place to be on. He started to walk without stopping and looking back. He knew that it was the moment to left all the suffering in the past and start over a new life...

Post : Correction Treatment
One of the people that I’d like to meet with or talk to is definitely Plato. I’d like to talk to him because I believe he was such an inspiring model for (We) thinking and knowledge. Also, because(Nn) when I knew him through Philosophy I thought that he was a very intelligent person and I have to recognize that I fell in love with his books and his way of thinking. However, in my personal opinion, his philosophy has been a huge influence in culture and (Sm)way of thinking through history.
Well, I’d like to talk about how he reached that level of thinking. Also, where did he get their(WF) inspiration from and that if he can explain to me what the true meaning behind the Cave Allegory was. Moreover, I’d like to tell (Ww) him about our current lives and our poor (not in general) exercises(Wf) on Spirituality. I think in some way we have lost that part of our lives and that is why I’d like if he could give me some kind of advice in order to see things clearer and maybe enlighten myself.

Error Correction Activities

My opinion in regards to this kind of activity is positive. Although, correction sometimes is not such an interesting thing to do, I think that it has been quite helpful in my learning process. As a consequence, I have improved my awareness at the moment of writing. Furthermore, the work that we have been doing with the U Chile Geography students has been necessary both in order to help me to acquire experience and practice doing corrections and helping them to realize that writing is a slow process and that they are doing a good job in their own posts.

Writing Right

I think, one of the main problems that Natalia and Diego have is that they get confused with the use of the tenses. So, when you read and analyze their last posts you see that they repeat some of the same mistakes they made before. There are also some mistakes on punctuation and capitalization. However, they have improved quite a lot their word order, because they only have a few mistakes on that.
I believe that if they want to improve their writing skills first of all they have to read some other stuff in English. If their read and notice about the expressions, the use of the tenses or lexical chunks, they are going to be more aware of their next posts in order to write them more carefully. At the same time, and I think that Javiera wrote it, that a good idea is to read the posts twice before they publish them. To be honest, I do not do that frequently when I create pieces of writings or posts but I know I have to do it for my own learning.

Word Aid Assigment

Well, on Natalia’s posts “My English Experience” and “Summary… Desert Cities…”, two of the most common mistakes she made were on the order of words and expressions. I think these error happen because of the unconscious desire to translate what we write and say in Spanish to the English language. She also had some problems on wrong tenses but I think that it is an error easy to fix when you grow up as English learner.

On Diego’s posts “Learning English” and “I am Diego Pinto” we can see that he made mistakes mostly on spelling, wrong tenses and expressions. I also have noticed that Diego used the form “ can + an infinitive verb” Example: i can to read english texts and i can to confirmed. Although, he makes himself understood through his posts, he has to improve some of the basic errors he made on them.

One of the pattern I found is that when they want to contrast an idea they do not know how to do it. For example Daniela wrote For other part and Diego in opposite of. So, in that sense they have not notice the On the other hand lexical chunk yet as a way of contrasting different thoughts or ideas.

Blogs - First Reading

As I read the posts on students' blogs, one of the first things I realized was the feeling of knowing a lot about English. I'm not saying I have mastered this foreign language as a native speaker but I have the feeling of being capable to notice the millions of English structures studied through out my carreer.

I think these students are doing an excellet job because they are not so worry about what they write. Also, they are willing to express themselves in english which is not something easy to do.

Join the Blog Revolution.

I always have believed that the use of resources in which people can express themselves, has been a very positive idea. There are many advantages in the way you use these resources. For example, the use of a blog as part of a course in which all the people involved can express what they think or believe is important and meaningful. Why? Because it allows you to be creative in what you write and put in words what you have experience in life or even have a close relationship between your teacher and classmates. Therefore, with a simple blog you can create a community in where everyone’s opinion is fundamental for the process of learning.

According to what I have experienced the use of the blog has been a very useful tool for me. As I said before it permits me to be regularly communicating and expressing ideas, which is one of my favorite thing. Furthermore and going directly to the point on the learning of English, it has been central in the accuracy of getting more and more knowledge and practice in all the skills involved in the development and awareness of this language. It also have allowed me to get different opinions and comments and what is important to have feedback from my classmate encouraging me to perfect and learn more about my own process of learning.

On the other corner if we have to mention some disadvantages that the use of a blog may have, we can say for sure that the communication that takes place on it is not directly. Perhaps it may affect the way we communicate because we are not giving direct feedback and maybe you can misunderstand the advices that the teacher or a classmates gives you. Also, it could go against communication because of the cultural changes that we have been having since the beginning of the post modern era, which try to hold people outside or “alienated” from rest and not allowing you to participate actively in the decisions that we have to make as conscious people we are.

Finally, the use of the blog in our course has been a very interesting and exciting from the point of view of sharing with others. Although, I believe we have to be aware of the changes that technology tries to impose us in the way we communicate. Hopefully, in the way we more learn how to manage those changes the more positive will be our processes of learning and understanding communication and also we as the creators of that reality.

My Least Favorite School Subject

First of all I did not like any subject that I had at school because I was sort of Rusty James-like kid (Just kidding) = [).

To be honest, I never really had a least favorite school subject. Although, I can say for sure that there were some of them that I disliked in a way, but it was because they were quite difficult for me. For instance the Art subject which I studied from elementary to tenth grade in high school, it was a big headache because I have never consider myself good at drawing or doing manual things. Another example is math, but it was not a subject that I hated at all, I mean there were some situations in which the teacher delivered some activities where we had to do a lot of exercises and I really got bored doing that.

Characters importance on Rumble Fish movie.

Rusty James: He was the icon of the movie. As the first character he was the person which the movie moves around. Also I think he was really important because the story took place from his own personal life.

The Motorcycle Boy: He also was a really important character on the movie. He was the “hero” the image to follow for Rusty. Furthermore he was the one who always took care of Rusty in difficult situations. He taught Rusty how to be free because Rusty was made for being a free spirit.

Steve Hays: Well, Steve in my opinion was another important character because apart from being Rusty’s Friend he enters to the story and gives the mood of …Ok what’s going on here?... He was like the “good” part that Rusty never had. And also he was the only one for me that faced the Motorcycle Boy, because he suspected him and did not really believe in what T.M.B. represented to Rusty.

Patty: Well, she was not so important I think because she was Rusty’s girlfriend in turn. Also, Rusty did not care very much about their relationship which means that although she was necessary for the story, she did not have so much importance at the end when Rusty decided to leave her alone and not to find her anymore.

Cassandra: I think she was not really important in the movie because the only thing that I got from her was that she was a little bit crazy. She was M.C.B.’s chick but she did not have very much participation on the movie.

Patterson: He was important in the way he acted in order to be the bad guy, the antagonist. From the very beginning he wanted to kill M.C.B. because they had an old story in the streets and he did not want to have another Rumble Fish on his domain.

Smokey: I think he was not really important for the movie. The only cruel thing that he did was the cheating on Rusty James. He in a way arranged the situation in order to separate Rusty form Patty, because he liked her.

Rusty's parents: In a way they were important because if we can understand why Rusty James life was just like that it is because they had problems as a couple and then they separated. They were the ones who in part made Rusty James life what it was, a really difficult but interesting life in which the strongest will survive.

Everyone's a critic : Paulina's Blog.

First of all, I think that your blog is weak on features. For example, the first poor thing on your blog is the title. If you can manage that it will be more interesting in order to catch the classmates’ attention. As a suggestion you may try to look up for a catchy title in such a way that all of us can see different things and maybe would comment you on it.

Secondly, your blog does not have any kind of interesting links but the ones we have checked out already. I think it is important to have a blog in which you can find not just what you have done but maybe some links connected with education, music, movie trailers, websites you like personally, even if you have Facebook you can link it to your blog.

Finally, as a recommendation you might also check if you can put the pictures you leave out in the previous posts.

To sum up, although you have done a very good job in terms of writing and thinking and actually that is your best thing on your blog, you might try to fix these things up and I swear I’ll be the first one in check it out and comment you.

Sincerely yours

Pablo Valdes R.

Paulina's one .-

my bad work experience

First of all, My mind is not full of ideas to write about. So I found a topic (not very interesting for you, I think) to do my homework.

As many of you know, I did one of my work experiences in a school, where, I had to stay almost the whole day in a tiny room. Moreover, I couldn’t went to the classrooms because my guide teacher didn’t allow me. Even more, I couldn’t be near of the students in the breaks, because the principal was almost every time looking what I was doing. That experience was so bad, even because the teacher after two months was too disagreeable with me. She said that I wasn’t motivated but how I was gonna be motivated if a couldn’t be in the classroom while she was giving the lesson?.

So what do you think about that?

Paulina's correction.

A Very Disappointing Work Experience.

First of all, my mind was not full of ideas to write about something interesting. So, I found a topic (not very interesting for you, I think) to do my homework.

Have You Got Soul?

The Commitments (1988) is the story of a band that takes place in the north of Dublin, in the middle of a hardworking class neighborhood.

If we have to make a comparison between the book and the movie, obviously we are going to have a lot of differences. One of the first ones is at the beginning of the story. In the movie appeared a very clear context in which the characters were talking about music and the band: It was a wedding. However, in the book, it was not that clear the place the characters were in. For that reason, when you were in this part of the book you maybe were trying to find out where the story was taking place.

Also, there is another part that in the book is not so funny as the movie is. This is the part when Jimmy was choosing the people for the band. In the movie this part, in my opinion was very amusing because there were lots of different and rare people coming into Jimmy’s house. Nevertheless, in the book this part was not funny for me.

In general, it is common to have this type of differences if you recreate a movie from a book. And I have to say that I liked both. Why? Because the book showed lots of details in terms of characters and other stuffs and the movie showed more action that the book could give you.

Finally, I think The Commitments is a very interesting novel, because the story of how the band got together and then performed the Dublin soul at places, or how the mastermind behind the group tried to achieve something more than success, are things that really move you if you are a musician or someone who likes music from inside.

They Are Part of My Life...

As you may know I’m a crazy fan of Music, specially Rock & Metal. Therefore, I want to share with you one of the things that I’m passionate for: Electric Guitars. I think they are such an amazing creation and I love playing them. There are many guitar models and you can find them from the very basic (with just only one pickup) to the most extreme and complex ones.

They were created in the middle of the past century and since then they have become quite popular.

The models that I love most are the “Ibanez Universe 7-strings ” (see the one with green pickups), and also the “Flying V” (the white one). They are one of the most popular in the Metal music field because of its powerful sounds and original shapes.

In my case, I have a “Flying V” and I use it a lot when I rehearse and when I create and manifest my own music.

An Excellent site never found until now...

Wow! I am really impressed because I had never checked the BBC Learning English website. Now that I have been sailing through it I realized how many interesting things it has and also I believe that this website is going to be one of my favourite ones this year.

I think this site is quite good and it offers a lot of help for our process of learning. Why? Because it has a lot of exciting things for the English practicing such as News, Quizzes and Exams, Grammar & Vocabulary stuff etc; where you can find lots of exercises and material in order to get what you want to learn from English.

Also, there is a part which I liked that is related to being sarcastic. It is really good because you can learn some interesting phrases about how to say things in order to " be funny or to make a point”(From BBC, See the link below).

Finally, I recommend to take your time and check it because it won’t disappoint you at all.

Something to believe in...

Sir Ken Robinson talked about the consciousness of what we should aim for as future teachers: To encourage and to perfect children in order to they can develop themselves in what they really want to achieve. This is a very important thought and also I truly believe in it.

In addition, to make mistakes is something that culturally is not accepted, but If we can put ourselves in a more free position we would realize that it is only a trivial believe. The thing is that mistakes are part of our lives and they are important if we can take the learning of them.

Finally, it is really important to point out what Robinson said about Creativity : This is the potential that all human beings have born with. That is why we have to develop it in order to let children and also people to find what they are looking for in life.

A Very Useful Site...

Well, one of my favourite sites on Internet is Chilewarez.org. This site is one of those where you can find many interesting things for downloading and also tons of useful information related to almost everything you want or you have been looking for. In this way, you can find from PC utilities to just a boring chat =]]. It is important to point out that you can also share anything you want on its rooms.

The story of how I found this site is because I needed an antivirus for my PC and I found it here. Since then, I have been part of this virtual community as member which means that I visit it three or four times a week.

I really like this site because my life has become easier and also cheaper. This is because I do not have to pay anything for programs or movies and I entertain myself a lot searching and finding different things for my convenience.

And there is a section which says “Educación & Profesión” where you can find lots of downloadable information from dictionaries to English programs.

Please check it out.

'I have become an embarrassment'

This is the Story of John Smithers an important business man who has lost all his fortune and family because of drugs and a badly irrational behaviour.

Smithers is a 70 years old and tells his story in first person. He declares that the past two decades he has spent a lot of money on prostitutes, which has brought to him lots of troubles with his currently wife. Also, on the business field he has made very bad decisions and as a result of that he is in a very difficult situation with banks and his family. His children have blamed on him because of his behaviour arguing that they wanted to inherit the fortune but because of his irresponsible actions they will not going to inherit nothing but debts.

Smithers is already conscious that he needs medical help but what he does not know is how this story will end.

This story seems to be a very sad one, but analysing it make us think on how is it possible that a man who had a very respectful image and a growing business is now in a living hell?

Well, the facts are clear. Sometimes overkill could be very dangerous. And also, this story brings to our minds the well-known question ---

Money = Happiness?
